Student Visa

The Student visa is for people aged 16 or over who want to study in the UK with a licensed student sponsor. GOV.UK explains that applicants must normally have an unconditional offer from an approved education provider, a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), enough money for course fees and living costs, and the required English language ability.

Hussain Immigration Services can help you check the route before you apply, review your CAS and supporting documents, and prepare a clear Student visa application based on your course, finances, immigration history and family circumstances.

Useful Evidence Areas

Application Preparation

Timing matters. GOV.UK says applicants outside the UK can apply up to 6 months before the course starts. Applicants inside the UK can usually apply up to 3 months before the course starts and must apply before their current permission expires.

Decision times are usually around 3 weeks for applications made outside the UK and 8 weeks for applications made inside the UK, although priority services may be available in some cases.

  • Passport or valid travel document
  • CAS reference and course details
  • Financial evidence for fees and maintenance where required
  • English language evidence where applicable
  • Academic documents listed on the CAS
  • Tuberculosis test certificate where required
  • Consent and relationship evidence for 16 or 17 year old applicants

Student visa permission depends on the course and previous UK study. If you are 18 or over and studying at degree level, permission can usually be granted for up to 5 years. Below degree level, it is usually up to 2 years. You may be able to extend, switch into the Student route, or later consider the Graduate visa if you meet the relevant requirements.

Dependants are only allowed in limited Student route circumstances. We can check whether a partner or child can apply with you, explain visa fees and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and help you prepare the online application and supporting evidence.
